Privacy Policy
Last updated 29 August 2026
Astrosaathi (Android package astro.astrosaath.ai) is operated by Vela Labs, India (“we”). This policy describes exactly what the app collects, why, who it reaches, and how to get rid of it. It is written to be read, not to be survived.
1. What we collect
| Data | Why we hold it |
|---|---|
| Your phone number | Signing you in, and finding your account when you contact support. Verification is performed by Google Firebase Authentication. |
| Birth date, birth time and birth place (and the latitude, longitude and timezone we resolve that place to) | These are the input to your chart. Without them the app cannot answer anything. |
| Name, gender, marital status, occupation, preferred language | Changes how a reading is phrased and addressed. Everything except language is optional. |
| Your conversations with the astrologers | So a conversation continues where it left off, and so support can investigate a reading you report as wrong. |
| Payment records — amount, date, Razorpay reference ids | Crediting your message pack, resolving failed payments, and Indian tax and accounting obligations. |
| App version, device platform, crash and error logs | Fixing crashes. Kept 30 days. |
2. What we do not collect
No contacts, no photo library, no location tracking, no microphone, no advertising identifiers, and no browsing activity outside the app. We never see or store your card number, UPI PIN, CVV or netbanking credentials — those are entered inside Razorpay's own checkout and never reach our servers. The place of birth you type is geocoded to coordinates; your live device location is never requested.
The astrologer photographs and biographies you see in the app are our own content, stored in our media bucket. They are not other users, and no user photo is ever collected or displayed.
3. Why we are allowed to hold it
Your birth details and the questions you ask are processed on the basis of the consent you give when you complete onboarding. Payment records are processed to perform our contract with you and to meet Indian tax and accounting obligations. You can withdraw consent at any time by deleting your account.
4. Who else sees it
- Google Firebase — phone verification and session tokens.
- Our AI model provider (OpenRouter, routing to the model that writes the answer). Your question, a summary of your chart and the recent conversation are sent so the reply can be written. Your phone number and payment details are not.
- Razorpay — payment processing, under their own privacy policy.
- OpenStreetMap Nominatim — turning a typed place name into coordinates. Only the place text is sent.
- Amazon Web Services — our servers, database and media storage. AWS is our infrastructure provider and does not use your data for its own purposes.
We disclose data to no one else, except where an Indian law or a valid court order requires it. We do not transfer your data to a buyer or merger partner without telling you first.
5. Who at Astrosaathi can see it
The people who operate the service can read conversations and profile details through an internal console. That access exists for two reasons only: answering a support request you have raised, and investigating abuse or a payment that did not settle. It is not used for marketing and it is not shared outside the company. Each operator has a named account with their own password and role — access is not a shared secret, and it is revoked the moment someone leaves. If that is not acceptable to you, delete your account, and note that support genuinely cannot resolve a broken payment or a wrong reading without seeing what happened.
6. Where it is stored, and for how long
Data is stored in a managed PostgreSQL database and an object store, both hosted in Amazon Web Services' Mumbai (ap-south-1) region. Nothing is stored outside India except what our AI provider and Razorpay process in the course of writing an answer or settling a payment.
- Conversations, profile and chart: until you delete your account.
- Payment records: eight years, as Indian tax law requires. These survive account deletion in de-identified form (amount, date, reference id) and are no longer linked to your birth details or conversations.
- Crash and error logs: 30 days.
7. Your rights
- Ask for a copy of everything we hold about you.
- Correct anything wrong — birth details can be edited in the app.
- Delete your account and its contents, from Settings in the app or from this page.
- Withdraw consent, which means deleting the account.
- Complain to us first, and to India's Data Protection Board.
Write to privacy@velaapp.ai and we will answer within 30 days.
8. Children
Astrosaathi is not for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly hold data about children; tell us and we will delete it.
9. Security
All traffic is encrypted in transit with TLS. Database and object storage are encrypted at rest. Production access is restricted to the people who operate the service, over an authenticated session, and every operator account can be suspended immediately. No system is perfect; if a breach affects you, we will tell you and the relevant authority promptly.
10. Changes
If this policy changes materially, the app will say so before you continue using it. The date at the top always reflects the current version.
